In our last post, we outlined how crucial a prospective tenant’s first impressions of a property are, and gave landlords advice on preparing for a viewing. Continuing with this theme, we’re now turning our attention to renters. Below are our top tips on how to view a property effectively, and make sure you walk away with all your questions answered.
Know your criteria
Save yourself time and think carefully about what kind of room and property you would like before you go to a viewing. For example, if you’re a light sleeper, living on a busy road may not be ideal – check out a property’s exact location before you decide whether to view or not. Once you have your exact requirements in the front of your mind, you should find finding your perfect room in a busy rental market much easier.
Ask a friend to accompany you to the viewing
It’s better to attend viewings with someone you know to get an honest, second opinion. After the viewing, you’ll have someone to discuss what met your expectations, and what didn’t.
Take plenty of photos
As you move from room to room, make sure you take photos. Not only will it help when shortlisting properties, it will also help you visually plan your room layout before you move in.
Check out the surrounding area
Don’t just look around the property – set aside some time to explore the local area, especially if it’s somewhere you’re not familiar with. Ask to be shown what the area offers in terms of transport links, supermarkets, and other amenities.
Found a room you like? Act fast!
Once you’ve found your dream room, don’t hesitate to make an immediate offer. Currently, rooms fly off the market and sometimes get removed from listings on the same day they were advertised. So if you’ve found a room you like, don’t delay!
